In industries where flow control plays a critical role in ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and process efficiency, precision instrumentation is essential. At Val-Technik, we are committed to delivering reliable and high-performance solutions that meet the demands of today’s process environments. As the authorised distributor of SmartMeasurement, we proudly offer a comprehensive range of flow measurement technologies that are engineered for excellence.

Among the most versatile and widely used flow instruments are SmartMeasurement’s magnetic and coriolis flow meters. These devices are particularly well-suited for use in the Food & Beverage and Water & Wastewater sectors, where conditions are often dynamic and accuracy is non-negotiable. With advanced design, robust materials, and broad application compatibility, SmartMeasurement meters help operators achieve greater control, reduce downtime, and maintain high operational standards.

Understanding Magnetic Flow Meters

Magnetic flow meters, or mag meters, operate based on Faraday’s Law of electromagnetic induction. When a conductive liquid flows through a magnetic field generated within the meter, it induces a voltage directly proportional to the flow velocity. Electrodes located within the flow tube detect this voltage, which is then used to calculate the volumetric flow rate. Since magnetic flow meters have no moving parts and provide a clear, obstruction-free path for fluid flow, they are inherently low-maintenance and highly durable. These attributes make magnetic flow meters an excellent choice for applications that require consistent performance under varying flow conditions.

Magnetic Flow Meters in Food & Beverage Industry

In the food and beverage industry, mag meters are used for measuring liquids such as water, dairy products, juices, sauces, and cleaning solutions. Their smooth full-bore construction and hygienic lining materials such as PTFE or PFA make them compatible with CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems, while their stainless-steel construction ensures compliance with food-grade safety requirements. Whether it’s batch processing, blending, or packaging, the accuracy and cleanliness of magnetic flow meters contribute to product consistency and safety.

Magnetic Flow Meters in Water & Wastewater Industry

In the water and wastewater industry, magnetic flow meters are prized for their ability to measure fluids with suspended solids, such as raw sewage, sludge, and treated effluent. SmartMeasurement offers battery-powered and insertion-style magnetic flow meters, allowing for flexible installation in remote areas or large-diameter pipelines. These meters are especially useful in pumping stations, water distribution networks, and stormwater systems, where rugged reliability and resistance to fouling are critical.

Understanding Coriolis Flow Meters

Coriolis flow meters operate on a completely different principle. Instead of measuring volume, they measure mass flow directly by using the coriolis effect. As fluid moves through vibrating tubes within the meter, it induces a phase shift proportional to the mass flow rate. This allows the meter to capture not only mass flow but also density and temperature, making it a multi-variable instrument capable of delivering high-resolution process data.

SmartMeasurement’s coriolis meters are known for their accuracy, often as precise as ±0.1% of reading. Their performance is unaffected by changes in fluid properties, including temperature, viscosity, and density - factors that can significantly distort readings in other flow technologies.

Coriolis Flow Meters in Food & Beverage Industry

In food and beverage production, coriolis meters are commonly deployed for precise ingredient dosing, especially for high-value or viscous fluids such as flavourings, syrups, and oils. Their ability to measure real-time density enables manufacturers to monitor product concentrations such as alcohol or sugar content during processing. With sanitary designs featuring tri-clamp connections and polished internal surfaces, these meters are ideal for hygienic installations where ease of cleaning and contamination prevention are priorities.

Val-Technik Pte Ltd has supported industrial applications in Singapore and the region for over 30 years with engineered flow and control solutions. As the authorised distributor of SmartMeasurement, we supply magnetic and coriolis flow meters alongside technical consultation, installation support, and local servicing. These instruments are well-suited for applications in the food and beverage as well as water and wastewater sectors, where accurate and reliable flow measurement is essential for process integrity. Our role extends beyond product delivery, we work closely with clients to ensure each solution is effectively integrated into its operating environment.
